About Me
From the people behind the Serial Experiments Lain series and at times including the same sort of "other-world" style audio effects, Boogiepop Phantom is coming to get you. . . .
Story Intro
Five years ago, a string of disappearances and grisly murders took place, affecting a group of people surrounding a high school in different ways. An urban legend began as well; the strange feeling of being watched on dark evening streets just may be Boogiepop Phantom coming for you.
Like the classic Kurosawa film Rashomon, each episode follows a different character's viewpoint of the events, which helps link quite different stories and styles into one story arc across twelve episodes. At times one episode will show a scene to bring out assumptions in the viewer about one character, and the nest episode will show things from that person's point of view that collapses any preconception from the earlier viewing of the same scene.
Other Notes
An interesting visual effect is made in this show, as most episodes have a rounded edge around the screen, as if the viewer is watching this through a camera/telephoto lens. If you develop tunnel vision and hear someone speaking in two voices at once. . . Run.
The DVDs from TRSI include a commentary track as well, for those wanting behind-the-scenes discussions about the English-language dubbing process, etc.
